"Expert's Opinion": Alexander Losev about countries and monopolies under conditions of globalization
02.06.2021 15:00

The lockdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic has resulted in rapid global development of the e-commerce market, which was already consistently growing and was mostly represented by US companies. According to results of the first three months of 2021, the profit of Facebook has grown by 10 billion US dollars. Before that, Google reported record sales after the first quarter.

Success of global IT-companies is raising concerns in certain countires. Thus, France, the UK and several other countires are planning to introduce income taxes for Facebook, Amazon, Google and Apple.

What real levers of power do the IT giants receive? What is the role of the state in the processes taking place on the planet and are there any chances to strengthen national sovereignty under conditions of the Internet realities? When will e-commerce finally leave the traditional one behind?

Alexander Losev, Member of the Presidium of the Council for Foreign and Defence Policy, Director General of Sputnik Asset Management, will answer these and other questions during the "Expert's Opinion" show.

The event will be available to watch online tomorrow, on June 3, at 6:00 pm Moscow time on the Facebook page of the Gorchakov Fund.

A recording of the show will be published on the YouTube channel of the Gorchakov Fund.
