Alisher B. Usmanov

Founder and co-owner of Metalloinvest Holding.

Born on September 9, 1953 in Chust, the Namangansk Region, Uzbekistan (USSR). Former member of the USSR national fencing team. In 1976 graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations with a degree in International Law. Worked as a research fellow at the USSR Academy of Sciences, senior advisor at the Central Committee of the Uzbekistan’s All-Union Leninist Young Communist League, General Director of the Foreign Economic Association of the Soviet Peace Committee. Graduated from Academy of Finance under Government of the Russian Federation with a major in Banking.

1990-1998 – First Deputy CEO of ZAO Interros. 1994-1995 – Adviser to CEO of Moscow Aviation Industrial Enterprise (MAPO). 1995-1997 – First Deputy Chairman of MAPO-Bank. 1994-1998 – CEO of Interfin Interbank Investment and Finance Company. 1997-2001– member of the Board of Directors of OAO Arkhangelskgeodobycha (AGD). 1998-2000 – First Deputy CEO of OOO Gazprominvestholding. 2000-2001 – Advisor to the Chairman of the Management Board of OAO Gazprom. 2000-present – CEO of OOO Gazprominvestholding (subsidiary of Gazprom specializing in collection of accounts receivable). Since 2008 – President of the International Fencing Federation.

 2009 – member of the Presidential Council of the Russian Federation on Promotion of Physical Fitness and Sport, High Performance Sport, Management of XXII Winter Olympic Games and XI Winter Paralympic Games of 2014 in Sochi, XXVII Worldwide Summer Universiade of 2013 in Kazan. In 2012 Bloomberg listed Mr. Usmanov as the richest man in Russia with a net worth of $20 billion.
