Sergey Lavrov: Russia is actively using the policy of “soft power"

13 September 2018

Currently Russia has been confidently filling in the blanks in development of “soft power” diplomacy, which were a result of the breakup of the USSR, stated Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov at a meeting with students of Far Eastern Federal University.

According to IA REGNUM, when chairing the meeting on the sidelines of the 4th Eastern Economic Forum, the head of Russian MFA said that one of the elements of the "soft power" was development of Russian language centers abroad. The 2014 Winter Olympics and FIFA World Cup – 2018, according to Lavrov, were also examples of people’s diplomacy. The minister reminded that cultural cross years and years of the Russian languages were also bringing positive results.

“Russia advocates equal and indivisible security in the Asia-Pacific Region based on non-bloc approaches, the principles of international law, peaceful settlement of disputes and non-interference in the domestic affairs of sovereign states”, said Lavrov.

The 4th Eastern Economic Forum is taking place at Far Eastern Federal University on September 11-13. This year it has brought together over 6000 participants – representatives of government, business, academic and expert communities from 60 countries.
