Influence of the coronavirus on national and foreign policies of Asian countries was discussed during an online discussion of the Gorchakov Club
On April 24, another online discussion “Northeast Asia: Is It on Shaky Ground?” was organized by the Gorchakov Fund. The following experts took part in the discussion: Sergey Kukharenko, Director of the Institute for Public Diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific Region, Head of Academic Unit of the Confucius Institute at Blagoveshchensk State Pedagogical University; Ivan Zuenko, Senior Researcher at the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Far-Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Vladivostok); and Konstantin Asmolov, Senior Researcher of the Center for Korean Studies ay the Institute of Far Eastern Studies RAS (Moscow).
The most discussed topic, as expected, was the coronavirus and its influence on internal and external processes in the region. China, which was the first country to be affected, was able to cope with the first wave of COVID-19, but continues the fight inside the country and cooperates actively with the partners beyond its borders.
In addition to the topic discussed by everyone, the conversation focused on the developing political situation in North Korea, certain trends in North Korea, which are not quite clear, and prospects of the U.S.-Chinese dialogue or confrontation.
We would like to mention the high level of the discussion. We hope it will be further developed by the experts.
