Franco Frattini – in a joint project of RT, the Gorchakov Fund and Information Society Development Fund
A meeting with Special Representative on the Transnistrian Settlement Process of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy (2002-2004, 2008-2011) Franco Frattini took place in Moscow on January 26 at the Diplomatic Academy. Following the dialogue, organized by the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund and Information Society Development Fund, the Italian politician gave an exclusive interview to TV channel Russia Today.
“During almost two decades after the breakup of the Soviet Union, transition to the West seemed as the most sustainable political option for several former Soviet republics, which was facilitated by uncertain prospects of membership in the European Union. That promise inevitably created two gravity centers in Eastern Europe, which resulted in Russia’s confrontation with the West. Now, when the EU itself is striving to restrain further development, how does it leave the countries situated between those centers of gravity?” – writes RT.
