CSTO Model-Conference. Consolidation of youth with the goal of solving issues of global security

The annual international CSTO Model-Conference, organized by Youth NGO Consensus with support of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, completed its work in the Armenian city of Tsagkhadzor.

 

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, Head of the Presidential Administration of Armenia Vigen Sargsyan, Minister of Defense of Armenia Seyran Organyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Armenia Ivan Volynkin and Head of Rosmolodezh Sergey Pospeolov sent words of welcome to participants and organizers of the forum.

 

The format of the Model-Conference, which had been based on structural content of Collective Security Treaty Organization, allowed 24 participants from Armenia, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, and Abkhazia to discuss such important problems as providing cybersecurity on the Eurasian space, fighting drug trafficking and a terrorist threat of ISIS as well as prevention of local conflicts in South Caucasus and Central Asia within the framework of three sections (Council of Ministers of Defense, Council of Foreign Ministers and Council of Secretaries of Security).

 

Following experts in the targeted field took up guiding the young participants – Samvel Martirosyan, Oganes Sarkisyan and Karen Galoyan. Besides the official work within the three sections, informal meetings of the delegates with guests of the event were held within the framework of the conference. The following meetings took place: with Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of Russia to Armenia Alexey Ivanov, Deputy Head of the Defense Policy Administration of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia Eduard Yeritsyan, representatives of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Armenia Igor Kusov and Atsamaz Bichenov, and Deputy Executive Director of the CSTO Institute in Armenia Andrey Shakhbazov.

 

The forum did not leave behind leading Armenian and regional mass media, and a press conference was organized for them on the day of the opening of the event.

 

The Model-Conference ended with an evening of culture. The delegates presented their countries and treated the guests to dishes of national cuisine.

 

When drawing results of the forum, Deputy Executive Director of the Gorchakov Fund Roman Grishenin mentioned a desire and an urge of young people “not to keep out of everyday problems, but to understand and solve them and then preserve accumulated knowledge, maintain relations with each other as well as friendship”.


The most active participants of the conference received special awards: an opportunity to undertake an internship at the CSTO Institute in Armenia and participate in major events of Rosmolodezh and the Gorchakov Fund.
