A participant of the Potsdam Meetings was elected the President of Germany
On February 12, former head of the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier was elected the 12th president of the country. According to media, he was elected by the vast majority of the Federal Assembly.
We would like to remind that on May 30th of last year Mr. Steinmeier spoke to participants of the Russian-German seminar the Potsdam Meetings in Berlin.
The politician expressed confidence during his speech that Berlin should make every effort to remove tension and establish a dialogue with Moscow, while protecting its values.
“A turn towards Russia means to me that we should consistently defend our positions if our common principles are defied and at the same time we should make every effort to remove tension and build a dialogue”, said Steinmeier then.
