Vladimir I. Yakunin
Russian businessman and politician, former President of OAO Russian Railways (2005-2015). Full State Counsellor of the 1st class. In the past, served as Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation and Railway Transport of the Russian Federation.
1972 – graduated from the Leningrad Mechanical Institute with a major in Aircraft Construction. Worked at the State Institute for Applied Chemistry, at the State Committee for Foreign Economic Affairs of the USSR Council of Ministers. 1982 - Head of Foreign Relations Department at the Ioffe Research and Physics Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences. 1985-1991 – Second, then First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the USSR to the United Nations. 1991 – founded International Business Cooperation Center, which specialized in attracting foreign business investment. Simultaneously, participated in creation of the Russia Bank, became member of the Board of Directors. 1997 - Head of the North-West Regional Inspection of Government Accountability Office of the President of the Russian Federation. After 3 years was appointed Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, in 2002 –First Deputy Minister of Transport. OAO Russian Railways was later created on the basis of the Ministry of Transport.
2001-2002 – Chairman of the Board of Directors of OAO Novorossiisk Shipping Co. (Novoship) and OAO Vostochny Port. 2003 – First Vice President for Finance of OAO Russian Railways, 2005 – President. Chairman of the Board of Trustees of two non-governmental foundations: Center of National Glory of Russia and St. Andrew's Foundation. Academic adviser and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Center for Problem Analysis and State Management Design of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation since April of 2014. After resignation from the position of the president of Russian Railways, he continued working at World Public Forum “Dialogue of Civilizations” and started creating a think tank, which will focus on searching for new solutions and development of specific proposals to reduce tensions in the world. In July of 2016, Istoki Endowment Fund, founded by Vladimir Yakunin, launched a project targeting training of students from the Faculty of Political Science of Moscow State University at the largest world universities — in France, Great Britain and Singapore.
