“Russia and Belarus: History and Culture in the Past and in the Present”. A school sponsored by the Gorchakov Fund
Sessions of the academic school “Russia and Belarus: History and Culture in the Past and in the Present” are taking place in Smolensk. Young researchers from Russia and Belarus got together here to discuss current political, historical, economic and social issues of bilateral relations.
The event was organized by Autonomous Non-Profit Organization Academic Center “Porubezhye” and Smolensk State University with the support of the Gorchakov Fund.
The audience of the school consists of 38 young experts from Russia and Belarus. Vice Rector for Research of Smolensk State University, Head of REC “Russia and Belarus” Evgeniy Kodin welcomed the participants. “Today the students will study topics, which present an interest to them from the point of view of an academic approach to our common Slavic past, our present and future”, he is quoted by press service of Smolensk State University.
Associate Professor of the Department of Southern and Western Slavs of the Faculty of History of Lomonosov Moscow State University Dr. Yuri Borisenok and Professor of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno Dr. Dmitry Karev also spoke during the ceremony.
“International academic school “Russia and Belarus: History and Culture in the Past and in the Present” is an innovation project. During every scheduled event of the academic school, at the lectures, workshops and master classes its participants receive an opportunity to study a wide spectrum of issues related to humanitarian cooperation in the field of history, social studies, political science, philology and cultural studies within the framework of the Russian-Belorussian Dialogue”, writes an official website of Smolensk State University.
The organizers expressed hope that the academic school “Russia and Belarus: History and Culture in the Past and in the Present” will promote development of a comprehensive image of cultural and historical alliance between Russia and Belarus and it will also become a powerful impulse for further development of relations in the area of science and culture, stressed the source.
